Hey CC-ers! I was wondering if any of you have taken AP Art History. I'm considering transferring into it. Is it rigorous? I've heard it's fairly easy for an AP course, and that many people even self-study the exam. Also, is it interesting? I'm sure it would be for me because I am a bit of a history geek. Thanks for the insight!

I think people say it’s easy because it is very interesting! I absolutely loved the course and I would definitely recommend taking it. It is not only a rare AP (meaning not many people take it) but also one that is very rigorous to the eyes of admission officers. I have to say it is highly rigorous (also, rewarding–you’re going to learn so much) and quite difficult because of the scope of the course. However, if you use REA’s 5 Steps to a 5 for Art History I’m sure you will get a 5 just like me :)

I’m taking it next year! The AP history program at my school is really good. And I’ve already taken an art history class as it’s a required course for underclassmen. Pumped! Even though it’ll be a year before I take it…

It’s the best class ever, no joke. Our text was gardner’s, our teacher was amazing. I would say its among the more rigorous history APs, but it was way too enjoyable for anyone to mind. Self-studying is about is risky as self-studying the English exams, where your interpretations of some works may be incorrect without the aid of a teacher.

“5 Steps to a 5” should be changed to “Are you serious about getting a 5”

oops. haha.

Thanks so much. Always good to get some insight on a more personal level.

funny, I have seen it listed as one of the hardest AP courses out there.
good luck :)
