has anybody got AP shcolar with distinciton or national AP scholar awards by the end of thier JUNIOR YEAR? Can they then put that down on their college application in fall? How much does that help?

I would also like to know... otherwise known bump...

I want to know too... >_<

Yeah you can put it down.

For some reason, it doesn't feel that special as it should. Maybe its cause I have this thinking that AP exams dont really reflect the difficulty of courses in college. I mean a 70% to get a 5(A) in Calculus just doesn't feel right for me. I would think that an 85-90% would be a 5 on AP Calc exam or A in a college class.

Anyways congrats to everyone who got it and another congrats to those who surpassed us and got National Scholar as juniors!

Since you havn't official received the award (and won't by the time some of your apps are due), put something like "National AP Scholar (expected)"

arent they on teh score reports we get this month

"Although there is no monetary award, in addition to receiving an award certificate, this achievement is acknowledged on any grade report that is sent to colleges the following fall."

The wording is slightly different on the APCentral site
[quote]
Each September, the College Board recognizes the many high school students who have distinguished themselves academically by announcing AP award recipients. There are several types of awards, granted for various levels of achievement. Although these are not monetary awards, the students receive a certificate and their achievement is acknowledged on any subsequent AP Grade Reports sent to colleges

I interpreted that as meaning that the award is noted on AP reports sent in future years, not in reports for the current testing cycle.

I remember receiving the certificate for the award in October of last year through mail, so I'm just going to hope that I receive my certificate the same time this year [for AP National], and I'll just put it on my apps.

october hmm

Yea I just got scholar with distinction, which is not a big deal in terms of college apps, but national is pretty sweet.

what are these awards like "AP scholar" and whatnot? I've heard of them, but I've never heard of anyone in my school ever getting them (which doesn't surprise me much)...

its on the collegeboard website. http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/scholarawards.html

i won't have 8 exams til the end of my senior year. so do i still qualify for the award?

If you get the award in your senior year, you'll recieve official notification in the fall of your freshman year of college.

sugardoggy88,

Distinction is pretty good too. Somewhere on the CB/AP web-site they have the awards broken down by state and grade. Overall there were about 7,000 Scholar with distinction awards for last year's juniors. With the change in policy I would expect the number to increase a bit.

Further, most colleges will weigh the APs higher than SAT IIs if they are available. At least according to A is for Admission . . .

This may sound like a dumb question, but here goes. Why put down any AP awards on a college application other than the AP State Scholar award? If you report your AP scores, the colleges will know that you are an AP Scholar or whatever. I don't mean to reflect negatively on these awards; I'm just curious.

A lot of times colleges don't even look at AP scores until after you are admitted.

^ditto.......

Hey, I'm applying ED to Princeton and will be a national ap scholar by then. Do you think that it will even play a role, or will it be something that everyone at a place like Princeton gets?
