I'm going to be a sophomore and I will take regular biology at my school. I reeeeeeeeeeaaaaallllly want to take an online course/self study for AP Bio, but I have no background in chemistry whatsoever. Do you think I can get a 5 on the AP Bio test? I've heard a lot of chemistry is involved in AP Bio, and college board.com even says that I should have a background in bio and chem before this.

While I suppose it is possible to take AP Bio without a background in chem, I would recommend against it. I had taken chem before AP Bio, but a lot of my friends were taking regular chem at the same time, and they really struggled as a result. If you need to take AP Bio this year, I suppose you could do it, but I would strongly recommend you either take chem before or while doing AP Bio.
Why do you need to take it this year? You’re only a sophomore, you still have time.

Its very basic chemistry, such as covalent and ionic bonds, that the textbook should cover. In the campbell textbook, chemistry is pretty much the first 3 or 4 chapters, so after that you should be fine.

What’s your hurry? You can always do AP Biology after chemistry.

About 1% of AP Bio requires Chemistry knowledge, and that 1% can be learned by reading like 2 chapters in your Biology book, as a poster mentioned before me

I “self-studied” AP Bio while taking reg. bio at school and got a 5, as a freshmen. I guess you could self-study but you really have to study ALOT. I studied until 3 am every night. So get ready for a lot of stress! Otherwise, there is nothing wrong with taking AP Bio as a junior:) A lot of people do that.

LOL ^
you studied every night?
sheesh i just studied the entire book for like 40 hours the weekend before

1 - The chemistry in AP Biology is very basic, and requires little or no prior chemistry knowledge. Last year, as a sophomore, I took AP Biology and Honors Chemistry simultaneously. We covered all of the chemistry-related material in AP Bio before we even started learing in my Chem Honors class. In other words, I essentially had no chemistry education before we covered the chemistry material in AP Bio. You should have no issue whatsoever making it through AP Bio without chemistry knowledge.

2 - Studying until 3am every night is overkill. Studying every night in the first place is almost overkill, too. All you need to do is keep up with class lectures, skim the chapters (or read them if you’d like; you should be able to cover about 2 chapters per weekend), and read Cliff’s review book the weekend before the exam. That’s how I got a 5, and my teacher wasn’t all that great.
