i really want to go to ap bio. However my grade in chem h is an 87. Its so unfair bcause tests are 90 % while labs are 10%. However, my teacher likes me and always puts "makes an effort to succeed". Do you think I will get in?

its really your choice whether to take the class or not. a strong plea and a parents note can get you into most classes (unless full). 87 is kick ass. dont worry, youll get in. be prepared to do a lot of memorizing. bio is more focused on vocab than anaysis. more concrete, but it can get boring if you have a bad teacher. also be prepared to miss most of your labs and demos for lectures.

anyone else

I got a 68 in AP Bio last term. That class sucks.

bumpppppppppp

whats the best way to study bio???? i read like a chapter 10 times before the test... is there some easier way? and what r the imp things to note when taking notes bc to me the whole chapter seems important :-D

yea... not read the chapter??? and just go for the obvious answer, more times than not, the blatantly obvious ones are right

AP bio is an awesome class. I totally recommend taking it. I have a wonderful teacher, he knows how to make the lectures fun and the material more than just vocab we have to memorize. It is a lot of work, our tests are all essay questions and usually take about 2 hours to complete (so we have to come in at lunch in order to finish them on time). However labs make up for this, they're all really fun. We're currently doing the famous fruite fly genetics lab!

Be prepared to study a lot for that class, every week you'll have a butt-load of material to memerize for tests.

I took Level 2 Bio, Chem and Physics in Freshman, Sophemore and Junior year and got like a A/B average on them. The school handbook says you have to have taken Level 1 Bio, Chem or Physics in order to be able to be reccomended into AP BIO.

I begged and pleaded and fought to get into the class, and after my bio and my physics teacher rejected me and didn't write me a reccomendation, I got my chem teacher to. I dont know how it works in your school but if you really, really, really want AP BIO, then nothing can prevent you from taking a class you want.

And for me its my hardest class I have ever taken in my entire life. I ended up with a B, 81 first marking period, and I thought I would fail. THis marking period I hope to get a B+ or maybe, just maybe, an A but I doubt it. I am happy with PASSING in this class its so hard .

Lol my class is doing the fruit fly genetics lab now too.

AP Biology is the most work I've ever done in a HS class. There are so many raw facts and names to memorize it's overwhelming at times. On the other hand it's actually interesting to learn about some topics (Excluding taxonomy and ecology for me). Basically I have about 3 hours of homework just in this class a day, (including studying), and I pull off an A-. Your grades are directly correlated to how hard you work, if you're lazy do NOT take this class. I went from doing minimal work in AP Chem and pulling off an A+ and a 5 on the AP exam to insane amounts of work in AP Bio getting an A-. Just putting it in perspective.

I think you will definately get in- no question about it. Well, as far as the AP Bio class goes, it is an amazing class. Honestly, I feel like these people are scaring you. In my opinion it not that much. Yes, it is a class based on facts, but if you understand the concepts, you will understand the facts/details and be able to memorize them easily (especially by creating mnemonic devices to help) . If you have a good teacher that gives out handouts with practice questions, then you should be fine. I would definately recommend Cliffs, for the information and review questions, and Barrons just for some more practice questions. If you plan your time right you should have no problem. I am a sophmore and I got a 97 in AP Bio last marking period and I expect a 99 for the next and final marking period term grade. I just make sure I understand what is going on within 2-3 days of learning it. As far as tests, I study two nights before and then the night before I study a lot! Maybe not the most effective method, but I am comfortable with it. Another thing, if you are having any trouble, I would recommend any tutoring available and also consult a classmate that is understand that specific topic. Good luck to you and I would definately say TAKE THE CLASS!

Potomac, I don't think actually getting into the class will be much of an issue. And while AP bio can be a really hard class (it definitely was for me) it may actually be easier for you than chem, which is somewhat conceptual. Like Karido said, your success in the class will be directly correlated to how hard you work, because bio is basically just memorizing. So as long as you study hard, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Good luck!

I didn't do homework (which was 20% of the grade) and never studied, thus the 68. I agree, it's not a difficult class if you do the work, but there's just so much of it to do!

in our district, there's no prerequisites for ap bio- last year, my bio teacher had to teach all of us everything from scratch. she was amazing though. our class ended up with a LOT of 5s and a few 4s and maybe one or two 3s.

err also, i'm not sure why most people have so much work- we never really had that much to do, except on vacations, when we had packets to complete. otherwise, we usually had chapter review questions to do from campbell (most people just copied the answers from the green box).
