So I am debating on whether or not I want to take AP Chemistry or AP Biology my junior year in high school. I know I want to major in something related to microbiology. Here’s a little background:
I have a B- average in Pre-AP Honors Chemistry (sophomore year), and an A average in Honors Bio (freshmen year).
I am currently in chemistry right now and i seem to understand the basic ideas, but the tests are what kill my grade.
What should I take?
Well, if your grades were better in bio, I would take AP Biology.
I would take AP Biology also and consider taking AP Chem Senior year if you think you are up to the challenge. Just a warning, as a Microbiology major myself in the dark ages, I ended up with a Chemistry Minor since I was required to take 3 1/2 years of Chemistry related courses for my BS degree. Usually 1 year General Chem/Organic Chem/Biochem and 1/2 year of Quant Analysis Chem and Physical Chem. Good Luck.
If you can, take both, maybe one junior year and one senior year. It sounds like a lot but it will ultimately pay off. If you had to go with one though, I’d go with bio.
@Gumbymom What do you mean by “the dark ages”?
@Microbiololigist She probably means ‘many years ago’!
