My calculus teacher promised slope fields. I was banking on that. What was the point of learning slope fields...?

-The Promised Coot66

Well, that makes me feel better. I was nervous because I know I got 6c wrong. One of the no-calc multiple choice I totally guessed on as well. We have like...THE AWESOMEST TEACHER EVER, and I know most people in our class didn't know two or three no-calc MC, one or two calc MC, and two or three sections on the free response. This is like.........incredible teacher. Last year his class had like 35 fives, 7 fours and 2 threes. So the curve is going to be lowww.

What the heck was that free response, why was it so hard. I took a lot of practice test, some made by my teacher who is actually a college professor and got 5s on them all. Now i will be lucky to get a 4 ont this thing.

Oh my GOD.....I was SOOO sure I was going to get a 5.......aced all the practice exams.....now I'm betting on a 4 (if that o.O)...

If the cut-off for a 5 is normally 65%-70% (that's what people were saying yesterday, right?), how low do you think it could POSSIBLY sink this year? :-( Any guesses?

My Calc teacher also said that we would most likely have a slope field problem...but I guess he was wrong! AHHHHHH

That was painful. Physically painful. When I exited the room after the MCs were over for break my proctor asked me if I was okay because I looked so naseous, I guess o.O. Although the multiple choice wasn't awful. But those free response questions... WHAT HAPPENED? But yeah, it sounds like everyone across the board thought the test was wicked hard so maybe the curve will be a nice and big one....

Well, at least I'm on to English literature tomorrow... things can only go up from here!

That was brutal!!!

I did all the free response questions on the website and this was the hardest. I hope they curve it. Our teacher was so sure most of us were going to get a 5 and so were we actually. But, it's very doubtful now.

I hope the cut off this year goes to around 45%....

The Free response was like the Barrons' Review but our teacher and everyone else had said that Barrons was incredibly hard and nothing like the actual test.

If only I had done some of those Barron's questions..

I don't think the AP people considered the exam "hard" perse', but I think they realized that their free response this year covered topics that it doesn't normally cover, which caught a lot of people off guard probably.

The multiple-choice was fine, I thought, and interestingly the calculator questions were easier than the non-calculator questions, which was never the case in practice multiple choice.

The way I see it is, even though the free response was incredibly difficult, it doesn't really discredit most people's chances of a five. I believe, according to Wikipedia, that generally, the raw score you need for a 5 is 75, and this is derived by getting 1 point for all your right answers, subtracting 1/4 of a point for each wrong answer, and then multiplying that total by 1.2, and then adding to that your free response score. Anyway, hypothetically speaking, I think I got around 39 or 40 points on the multiple choice, when you calculate it like that. And, the free response, I've no idea how well I did, but I'd like to think I at least got 30 points or so, out of a possible 54 (this would result in a disastrous grade on any test that isnt an AP exam), which would put me around a 70, at least. And if the curve is more generous this year, which I imagine will be the case, I think we'll be OK.

Consider that last year 22.3% of the students got 5s. Do you think that 22.3% of the Calc AB students in this country are superior to you in mathematics? If my school is any indication, and keep in mind I live in Georgia, I think that we'll hopefully receive pleasant news in the mail come the third week of July.

its possible to get a 4 just from multiple choice, so maybe I didn't do so bad.

It's going to be a looooong 7 weeks.

I was sure I was going to get a 5, so was my teacher, and I walked into his class after the test and he took one look at me and knew how bad it was.

I heard last years test was not very difficult.

I thought the FR was challenging, but not as hard as most of you are making it seem to be. lol. Unless impossible to you means anything less than 60%. I think I got anywhere between 50-60% of the FR right, and about 70-80% of the MC.

Hopefully the curve is big. I feel a bit bad for my teacher; he put so much time and effort into the FR. He p[prepared us for everything that was on the FR today, but sadly, he failed to give us an adequate amount of timed examinations. I think that bit us in the rear today. :(

Rosh, I wouldn't blame your teacher at all for it....our class took loads of practice exams, and usually had about 20 min to spare afterwards. Whereas I don't think anyone in our class finished the AP today completely...

Btw, I don't suppose your name is from the Hebrew, is it? Just wondering.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one.... I was so excited after the MC because I actually knew what was going on and then the free response just slaughtered me. Is leaving two sections (as in like a and b of a question) practically blank really bad or decent? I hope the curve is really low.

well i think the average for the questions 1,2,3 and 4,5,6 goes something like

6 points 4.5 points 3 points. So it should be allright.

guys, the curve my teacher always gives us has a 3 starting at 36/108 and a 4 at like 52 or 53 (not sure) and a 5 at 67. So even if you got zero credit on FR but got a raw score of 30/45 on MC, you'll probably still have a 3 which is still accepted at the bulk of colleges.

what curve does your teacher give you for a 4?

Irishblues: Last year's FR was ridiculously easy... I looked at it and thought, "Oh good... I actually have a chance at a 5..." Actually, I looked at all the FR questions that they have on collegeboard. Most were doable... some even quite easy... I had confidence that I'd get a 4, or perhaps even a 5, God willing... Not arrogance....confidence...

That confidence was somewhat maintained with the multiple choice, which I think did ok on....

That confidence immediately disappeared when I saw the FR questions. I had expected slope field....implicit differentiation...separation of variables... I expected easy graph questions like they have EVERY OTHER YEAR.... I swear, as soon as I saw the questions, a little piece of me died and floated away. With each successive question, more and more pieces of me died until I was nothing but a broken, broken spirit. After that, I almost started laughing, because the FR was just that laughably bad. I don't think I could count how many times I said to myself, "WTH!?"

The worst part was, I was so thrown off by what I didn't know that I wasn't able to do the stuff that I DID know... I COMPLETELY lost it. I choked...

I am PRAYING for a 4.....

My name is Roshane... I think it derives from somewhere in Asia.. lol.. I really don't know.
