AP Chem Self-Study

I'm really interested in Chemistry, and am enrolled in Chem Honors this year. I would have loved to take the AP Chem course instead, but it isn't offered at my school anymore. I'm a little worried with time constraints, too. I have AP Calc AB, AP Lang & Comp, and APUSH in my schedule already.

Is self-studying worth the time and effort to take the AP test in May? The book I'm using for my current Chem class is an AP structured book, but my teacher isn't going very in-depth in any of the topics. There is a handful of other students that want to take the test as well, so I would be able to at least have study sessions with some classmates.

Also, how does the lab requirement work? Do I need to submit the write-ups to college board at the time of the test in May?

AP Chemistry would be extremely difficult to self-study for, at least without some serious help from an instructor who has taught the class before. Chemistry doesn’t lend itself to self study like the history exams do. And you are not taking a particularly easy schedule as it is. And no, the college board doesn’t particularly care if you perform the 22 “suggested” experiments or not, but they do ask general questions relating to them.
