AP chem with no previous chem

Hi I am a junior and we are getting ready to register for senior classes. I was wondering if anyone has any opinion as to whether it would be extremely impossible to take AP chemistry without ever having taken Chemistry or Chemistry Hon? I really would prefer to take AP Chem because it looks better but I don't want to kill my GPA. Any say would be appreciated :)

I'm not studying for the exam. I am considering taking the course during my senior year. I was just wondering whether or not it is doable. Has anyone else done it before

You wanna take AP Chem without a chem course before? May God have mercy on your soul.

Is it really that bad? I figured it might bekind of like ap physics. You don't need to know physics before you take it. I am guessing by your response that it isn't though. What do you think?

Half the people in my class basically did that. They had a different teacher for regular chem and got up to the concept of a mole. If you took physics or bio before, you will do fine. Just read the book once before you start the class.

Its nothing like physics. You need alot of prior knowlege before taking the test. I guess your plan is doable, I recommend PR.

PR=private reading?

yeah, I am taking physics right now

PR = Princeton Review

oh, duh, hey thanks for the advice, I will def. think about the whole "god have mercy on my soul" thing

i took chem last yr and taking organic chem this yr
and organic chem is taking up 3 hrs of my time every day and trust me it's not easy
so unless u wanna major in chem, why don't u take honors chem or double up?

Nevermind what I said. I have confidence in you :)

peach: I want to major in math, but I am completely anal when it comes to taking the hardest classes available to me. And I can't double up because I am taking AP Stats and AP BC calc, then my other elective is spanish...so, all the room in my future schedule is spoken for.

Sevendust: Many thanks for the confidence booster! :) I will a lot of confidence if I am really going to attempt this supposedly insane endeavor!

Hey Sevendust you live in Fl? So do I

Do you take FLVS courses?

No, but I have seriously considered it. There is not enough room in my day. Have you? Is it hard to not have a teacher teaching you in a classroom?

I have 4 AP courses currently at FLVS: Art Hist, Bio, Gov, and Eng Lang. everything except Gov is relatively easy.

damn, do you have a full schedule at your school too, or do you just take most of your classes online?

I have 5 APs in school, 4 online.

Omgosh, if I didn't know any better I'd say your name was Matt! Wow 9 AP classes all at once? How on earth do you do it? I am surprised your school even lets you. I tell my GC that I want to take classes outside of school and she starts freaking out and shes like Oh no you can't do that, you already have too many hard classes as it is. This was before she got to know me though :)

Online class are doable, especially art history. I can do a month's work in one day in that class.
