AP Chemistry Credit policy

Hey Everyone!
I have finally committed to the University of Michigan and plan to do Computer Science at the College of Engineering.
I am from CBSE Curriculum and plan to take the AP Examinations for college credit.
Well I was checking the AP credit policy for AP Chemistry on the college board and it states that :
3- 5 credits ; Chemistry 130(3)/125(1)/126(1), conditonal upon placement exam
4 or 5 - 5 credits ; Chemistry 125 (1 credit) 126 (1) and Chemistry 130 (3)

When I checked the Umich website nothing regarding the ‘3’ was mentioned

So my question is that if I get a 3 would I have to take a placement exam? If yes how much do I need to get on that to get the college credit.

I would really appreciate if someone could elaborate on this…
Thankyou

Looking at the admissions website, it seems that you need a 4 or 5 in order to get credit. The 3 may only apply if you are in LSA.

You have to take the placement exam if you get a 3 in order to be placed into a higher level chem class as opposed to the beginning chem class

I doubt engineering takes a 3 for credit without the placement exam.

Oh sorry thought I saw LSA

CoE does not give credit for scores of 3 for AP chem, no matter your results for the placement exam. You will have to take either gen chem or orgo to satisfy the CoE chemistry requirement if you get a 3. However, if you are interested in taking orgo (chem 210/211) to satisfy the chemistry requirement, you can take the placement test to see if you test into it, but you won’t get credit for gen chem.

If you are interested in doing the pre-health curriculum, then definitely take the placement test, even if you get AP credit for gen chem. Sometimes health professions schools will not acknowledge AP credit for chemistry, but will acknowledge your placement test results. If you don’t get credit for gen chem and plan to apply to one of these schools, then usually the placement test results will be acceptable in lieu of having credit for gen chem.
