I'm a sophomore currently taking 3 Honors and 2 AP Classes.

I'm interested in Stanford University for its science/tech + business.

I was wondering what APs I should take 11th Grade :

AP Calc AB
AP Chemistry
APUSH
Honors Orchestra
Honors / AP English Lit ?
Honors Bio
Honors Spanish 4

This is my tentative schedule for 11th Grade, feel free to give comments and insights into which classes I should take based on my interests.

I've already taken AP Micro and AP Macro this year, so the business APs are covered.

Also, if I'm applying to competitive colleges like Stanford, Harvard, Columbia, and UC Berkeley, how many APs should I take 11th and 12th Grade to be COMPETITIVE?

To answer your question about being competitive, it really depends on the school that you go to. Most top end schools like Stanford want to see that you’ve challenged yourself within the context of what you are being offered. Therefore there is no exact “good” amount of APs. That being said, Stanford generally likes to see at least three or four over between your 10th and 11th year, but that again depends on how many your school offers.

Your plan seems challenging, no doubt. I have no idea how difficult courses are at your school, but be relatively sure you can handle that many honors/AP courses before you plunge headfirst into them. I’ve seen many fellow students crash and burn after trying to cram too many APs into one year; you know yourself best.

Maybe I’m over-analyzing, but you seem a little bit high-strung. Try and relax a bit! The whole process of high school and college applications is ten times smoother when you’re relaxed, trust me. You will be a competitive applicant at the rate that you’re going.
