Hello, well I am new in this site which I can see is very helpful. I would like to ask a question in this webpage because I might find useful tips for my person. So next year I'm going to be a Junior , I am recently out of ESOL, now I am taking normal classes and next year I am going to be a Junior, and I have the choices to take 3 AP classes, AP US HISTORY, AP ENGLISH 11 , AP SPANISH LITERATURE(this is easy for me cause Spanish is my 1st spoken language). I was talking with some friends asking if they recommend me to take AP classes, some said yes other said NO! I talked with my mom, she wants me to take AP classes, but the part I am kind of worried is that it might be very challenging for me knowing the part that I think my English is not that well developed...even thought I got As and Bs in my English class. I got some sheets of papers, explaining me the requirements to take those AP classes, I met most of the requirements but the part I am worried about is: what if they use high advanced English(which I know those classes will use), and in that case it would be really hard for me to get As and Bs' plus knowing the fact sometimes I do not understand some words in my English class and I know most of colleges check your 11th grade and I really wanna do well but taking AP classes make me a little worried because if I fail then I will look bad at colleges. I need advices, my family had tld me that if i try my best i will be good, it all depends on me...but I am worried. please help me and between would you tell me how is my writing? I am really worried, education is 1st in my family, all of my relatives and family members went to college in y country, some are lawyers, architects, civil engineers, my dad is an agronomist in Spain, my mom is a designer and going to college here in the US, even my grandparents are well educated and I do not want to be a negative exception please help me!

APUSH and AP English are very reading intensive, and are probably among the last I would recommend to a non-native speaker. Your English does, however, seem fairly proficient so with some work i’m sure you could do fine. AP Spanish shouldn’t be a problem, but keep in mind that the test is graded differently for those who speak Spanish as their first language and those who don’t.

If you really want to take an AP class, I’m inclined to recommend a science/ math class, or at least one like AP Psych that isn’t so reading and writing intensive. Concepts in math and science are universal, and your understanding of English should be enough to get you through, with the only disadvantage maybe being base words in a science class.
