AP courses

Ok…would you say it’s a good idea to take an AP course just because it seemed interesting? For example i have plans on taking AP Art History but i probably won’t be doing anything related to that field…and i realize AP courses are mainly for college credit. So would it actually help me in the long run?

Take it. Who cares if you're not going to pursue it in college. The class will expand your horizons.

Most colleges require that you take courses outside your major. If you study AP art history now, you might be able to use the credit in college, even if you were majoring in math. Whether or not the credit counts toward graduation depends on the college.

Mostly, though, you should take art history if you are interested in it. You may decide to take several art history courses in college. I liked languages, although I majored in engineering. I took Latin and French in high school, then German and Russian in college. Although the German courses counted toward graduation, the Russian courses didn't because I already had enough credits in non-major subjects.

Thanks for the replies. =)

My S took AP Art History last year and loved it, even though he is definitely not an arsty-type kid. Plus, it was good background knowedge for AP Euro, if that is on your list.
