ap credit in college

when you get AP credits, how do they weigh in for your GPA and such?

to my knowledge, you just get a check mark next to that distribution requirment and it doesnt factor into GPA-- you just dont have to take the class

That’s the big dilemma with AP credits–accept the credits and get boosted into harder classes that might cause you to start with a low GPA OR
dont accept the credits and you might not be challenged, but with a high GPA

there is something screwy with this post, i know
couldnt fix it

A lot of (mostly private) schools use the AP scores for placement. Most public universities not only award placement, but it also counts as credit hours (but they do not figure in for your college GPA). When D1 entered college, she had 50+ credit hours from all of her AP courses. She’s been able to take a lighter courseload every semester, with 2 tough majors and a minor. Those extra hours have also come in handy in terms of priority for registration (after the initial freshman orientation), priority in getting good parking, etc.
