Does anyone know how Oberlin addresses AP credit with respect to GPA calculation? A friend went to "Big State University" and they designated AP's as a "pass", but used a "C" grade in GPA calc. Obviously this is an issue when applying to grad or professional school. Hoping to figure this out before scheduling courses.

AP courses are not used in GPA calculation at Oberlin. You get credit for the course (subject to departmental rules–see the course catalog), but no grade.

I just posted a link related to the one below in another thread and figure it might help the OP:

[Oberlin College | Office of the Registrar | Overview](http://new.oberlin.edu/office/registrar/ap-ib-credit/)

This is an overview of how AP (and IB) courses are treated. The specific departmental criteria that dave72 refers to have been compiled by the Office of the Registrar under the sublink entitled “Scores & Credit.”

Don’t delay in getting the credits sent in (using the instructions provided here) because they may move a student a little bit ahead in terms of priority for course registration and, I believe, housing preferences. Seeing as your friend at “Big State University” didn’t take the related courses there, I don’t know how BSU’s registrar can be in the business of assigning a grade to courses that s/he placed out of. They could use a dartboard to assign such grades and that would be equally fair and equally capricious as the system you described.

Yeah, Idk about Oberlin, but transfer/AP credits aren’t calculated into GPA at Beloit.
