I am attending UC Berkeley in the Fall, and I have some questions regarding AP testing and college transfer credits. Last summer, I took a English 1A Couse at my local Junior College. It was a 4 credit course. Because I have taken the English 1A class, is it necessary that I take the Language and Composition AP test? Are the credits redundant?

I have a vague idea that some majors require more years of English than others, but because I am planning on majoring in Chemistry in the College of Letters and Science, it seems to me as if taking the Language and Composition AP test after taking a English 1A course is redundant.

Is there a chance that I get recinded if I do not take this AP test? On my original UC application, I had stated that I had planned to take the AP Language and Composition test.

With a 4 or 5 on the AP test, you can waive at least part two of the Reading and Comprehension requirement of the college of L&S. It is a clear and defined path, whereas attempting to use prior college courses will be harder.

make sure that 1a course is equivalent to the R&C A/B requirement by checking the assist.org. ive heard of people not taking some of their AP classes, but ask the admissions office.

I don’t think the credits will be redundant, in that you will get “credit” for both sets of credits. However, in fulfilling the first have of the English Composition requirement, it will be redundant. If you took the course at a california community college, and the course is declared as equivalent to English 1A, getting proper credit should be no problem. Check assist.org as misterreach says.

Follow the required tutorial.. you can do this without signing in.. then when it get to the summary of requirements… somewhere there is a link with community colleges and the courses that can be used to cover the requirements.
