Is it worth taking more AP tests than the maximum 15 credits they allow you to claim? I already have 12 credits from Calc AB, Bio, and APUSH (if I'm correct English Language/Comp isn't accepted?) and I'm signed up to take 5 more. Is it a waste of money to take them or are there other benefits of AP tests?
Thanks!

If you have more than 15 credits, I don’t see a direct benefits (like getting credits) in taking more AP tests. However, those AP classes will give you a more in depth knowledge of the subject and studying that material will help solidify your knowledge so that when you take a similar class in college it may be easier for you since it isn’t your first time seeing that material.

Bio will not give you real credit, btw.

Yeah, many (most?) AP credits don’t actually place you out of classes.

I was reading the WUSTL websight and they indicated you would get credit for the AP courses, but, you would need to take WUSTL test to test out to be allowed to have the prerequisites for a higher class. Any idea about the costs of those tests?

The placement exams? They’re free if you’re an enrolled student (assuming I’m understanding you correctly)

Also, you cannot place out of intro chem or intro bio with ap/ib credits.

You actually can place out of intro chem, but not intro bio.

I thought that AP credits couldn’t be substituted for gen ed classes and could only be used to replace electives? Or are intro classes different from gen ed?

Also, I’m signed up to take AP Chem, AP Eng Lit, AP Calc BC, AP Econ (both micro and macro). Will any of these be useless for a biochem major?

Since you’re doing a science major, AP Chem credit would not place exempt you from any courses. AP English Lit is also meaningless to you since you’re ArtSci (you can’t place out of Writing I). AP Calc BC gives you some lower-level math credit, although I don’t think you actually need that credit to enroll in an appropriate math class. That is, even if you don’t take the AP exam but did well enough in BC, you should be able to get into Calc III here without any problems. But I’m not entirely sure. Someone else probably knows better than I do. It looks to me like a 4 or 5 on AP Macro/Micro will exempt you from the intro-level econ courses.

You can find much more information in the PDF below, which is this year’s credit policy:

You can place out of 111? I feel lied to.

Also, if you’re pre-med (or planning to be), you have to take all classes you get credit for anyway (essentially).

Only engineers. And only with a 5. But most of those who are pre-med choose to still take it.
