So I received a 4 on the AP Spanish Language exam which gives me 8 credits and is the equivalent to course Spanish 22 but I got a 3 on AP English Literature and 4 on AP Psychology which have no course equivalencies so does that mean I still get credits for them (it says 8 for AP Lit and 4 credits for AP Psych) but they just go to my general graduation requirement? If so, since Davis received my AP scores do my credits automatically go towards graduation or do I have to ask to use them?
Yes. You just didn’t officially place out of the equivalent classes.
No. Davis is very strict about this: No AP or IB credits go towards general education, even if you placed out of a class using those credits. The possible exception is that a high enough score on an AP English exam (I believe a 4 or 5 qualifies) may fulfill your lower division English composition requirement depending on your college.
Your AP credits count towards the 180 unit minimum to graduate. Given that the scores aren’t high enough to place out of the equivalent classes, and the fact that they’ve stopped including AP and IB credits in determining registration times, that’s about all you can use them for.
It’s automatically counted towards your unit total.
@PhantomVirgo thanks, that is very helpful. Is the no AP towards GE the policy at all UCs or does it vary?
@lkg4answers I’m honestly not sure what the AP policies look like at other UCs. You should be able to look up whatever UCs you’re curious about specifically to find that information.
If I recall correctly, I don’t think UCSD allowed AP credits to apply towards GEs, at least in ERC. But the last time I looked at those policies was over 4 years ago now, and that’s just one college at one other UC.
Edit 2: Looking around, looks like I was wrong here ^. Whether that changed recently or I was just remembering incorrectly for whatever reason, I don’t know.
Edit: I haven’t looked specifically to see if it details how APs apply to GEs (if at all), but this should be a good starting point: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/exam-credit/ap-credits/index.html
