Does UCSD only give 8 credits for English no matter how many AP English tests we take? The UC website kind of confuses me.

For UCSD:
English: EITHER TEST | Earns 8 units elective credit; satisfies Entry Level Writing requirement.

Does this mean I would only get 8 credits even if I take both Ap Lit and Ap Lang?

UCI is much more clear on this:
ONE TEST | Score of 3 earns 8 units elective credit; score of 4 or 5 earns one course toward category IV of the UCI GE requirement from the English 28 series plus 4 units of elective credit; may not replace English major or minor, Literary Journalism major or School of Humanities requirements.
BOTH TESTS | Score of 3 earns 8 units elective credit; score of 4 or 5 earns two courses toward category IV of the uci GE requirement from the English 28 series; may not replace English major or minor, Literary Journalism major or School of Humanities requirements.

I am pretty sure the only thing passing either AP Test does is fulfill the entry level writing requirement. If you dont fulfill it they ask you to take a test later on (in may) which is just a really really easy essay. If you dont pass this they make you take a remedial community college class before you take your college's writings sequence.

The 8 credits you get are just GE credits, they do not satisfy any requirements.

sorry, by "GE" i meant 'elective', they dont count towards a specific requirement

as far as i know tehre are no benefits to taking taking the AP english exams other than 8 units and fulfilling the entry level requirement, which is easy to fulfill with the test the UC's give you, 8 units is 2 classes tho so it may give you a better time when you pick classes as a freshman

Thanks Artic! That makes more sense now.
But if I already have a 4 on the AP Language test, will I get total 16 units if I pass the AP Literature test?

What I stated above was for my college (Revelle):
For UCSD:
English: EITHER TEST | Earns 8 units elective credit; satisfies Entry Level Writing requirement.

I'm not sure what that means. I would think that it means only 8 points max, since for the econ test, Revelle lists EACH TEST not EITHER TEST like for English
BUT I'm just not sure, and I need to know since the last day to pay for AP is next Friday. I guess I should call Revelle and ask huh?
