I have a scheduling conflict for next year. I can either take AP Calc BC and AP Studio Art, or I can take AB, Spanish, and Art. I want to be one of the very few to enter BC yet at the same time, i want ot have three APs. There is also the issue of me not completing my spanish course. If i take BC, i will not be able to take a 5th year of spanish, which would look horrible on my transcript. So, tell me, what should i do????

I'd say take AB instead of BC. While BC covers more, its usually not compatible with university Calc II classes...its just a bit more than AB. AB usually works better with getting college credit, because its comparable to a college Calc I class. You should go for the three AP's...just wanting the recognition of being in BC and learning a little bit extra that probably won't help you anyway is not a good reason to not take spanish.

It depends on where your interests lie. If you are sincerely interested in math, then I suggest BC. Otherwise, go with bre's suggestion.

Thanks for the advice guys.

This year I had a scheduling conflict and couldn't fit AP Spanish into my schedule either, and I planned an independent study with my (great) teacher instead. If you're pretty proficient in the language and have a certain degree of self-motivation, I say you could figure out a way to work with the teacher and learn Spanish regardless.

I took Calc BC last year and can't imagine taking AB; it was just way more fast paced and rigorous and collegiate in feeling, and I liked knowing that I was learning the entire course, not just bits and pieces. Then again I'm also a strong math student; if math isn't your strong point and you're more into the foreign language business, I agree with the other two opinions about AB.

(Actually, this AMAZINGLY talented girl at my school last year took Calc BC as an independent study and got a 5 on the test...but she's insane!)

One major reason i wanna take BC is because of the teacher. She overprepares US for the AP and everyone comes out of the test saying it was easy. there's a different teacher (not as good) teaching AB. Im told that im fairly proficient in Spanish, and i am pretty good at math. But, i think im gunna go with the first two suggestions. AB shuld be an easy A... atleast for the first semester. That way i can concentrate on spanish and art

I wouldn't say AB works better with getting college credit because it's comparable to a college class. BC contains all the same stuff as AB, plus extra. And some colleges will not accept any credit for AB, only BC (Penn) and others give twice as much credit for a 5 in BC as a 5 in AB (Columbia).

thanx alot guys.. the problem has been resolved. I got all my ap classes, including bc... i just had to change from physics honors to regular physics.
