I applied to all UCs except Merced, and already got into Riverside. I did some research on all the campus websites and all of them except Irvine from my understanding said I only need one English exam, doesn't matter which, to get credit. According to Irvine getting a 4/5 on both English exams gets you out of two courses of the English 28 series. Can someone clarify what this means? I would prefer to only take the lit exam because it seems easier than the lang one butI don't know. If it helps I applied as a Public Health Policy major. I have done research on the website for the major too but all these requirements are confusing me. Also I have to consider I may not even get in.

Until this year, my school did not offer AP Lang (it's in it's first year at our school and is for the juniors). All we had until now is AP Lit which I am in. However my teacher has designed the class in a way that we are prepared for both exams to make up for all this.

I’m not positive, I know some colleges only allow credit for one english AP test, even if you take two exams. For irvine, I interpret that to mean a score of 4 and above on the two tests gets you out of two English classes, or six credit hours. Of course getting out of one English class is worth only 3 credit hours. To be certain before you sign up, you could call the college to see what you can be credited. Many kids have taken tests only to find they needed 5s to get any credit, or that several would not get you credit. Some of these sights can be organized so much better, I agree.

No sorry. Just a parent, and I found several of these websites unclear (and hard to find!) also. Hopefully, you will get another answer that is better advised. Good luck.

My D is a freshman @ UCI. She took both Lit and Lang and got 5s in both. They gave her 8 units (2 classes) for Lit and nothing for Lang. I don’t know what they would do in your situation. But the rule is you get a max of 8 units in English.

So basically what you are saying is AP Lang is pointless and I would only need AP Lit, even at Irvine? I’m not going to take the Lang exam anyways because it seems harder than the Lit one but thank you so much for clarifying.
