If “SAT grammar” is acceptable, it should be easy to find instances of this/that/these/those used as demonstrative pronouns without a following noun (as required in SAT grammar). Otherwise, your best bet is to spot misplaced modifiers, which are legion, and ambiguous uses of “which” (referring to the idea before the comma rather than a specific noun).

My APLAC class started on Monday. Over the summer I had to read The Grapes of Wrath and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Yesterday, we did a practice FRQ (the Rhetoric essay) for the AP exam and it was quite hard.

I have to read A Chosen Exile: A History of Racial Passing in America and Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl. The latter has made me cry. I will never understand how people were able to mentally survive the constant torture and uncertainty that was tied to slave life. I haven’t picked up A Chosen Exile yet, but from what I’ve heard it is a fascinating read…

How are you guys doing in your classes?

My AP Lang teacher gave me a syllabus that included all of the books and excerpts we would be reading this year. Here they are:

Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God
Pudd’nhead Wilson
Ethan Frome
Spoon River Anthology
Glass Menagerie
Death of a Salesman
Raisin in the Sun
Washington Post
Washington Times

Some good stuff on that list, @ak2018 !

I feel like I’m stuck in this class. I’m pretty sure my average right now is a 90 which I am not happy about. I had this same teacher last year and am just always so frustrated with her. I’m pretty sure she doesn’t like me. Also, the essays we do in her class are 35% of our grade and she converts the 0-9 scale into 0-100. Does anyone have any advice for improving my writing skills to help my grade? I am just so frustrated in this class because right now (according to her grading) I am averaging about a 5 on the AP scale but I think I am doing/capable of doing better.

I can’t write essays point blank

Then this test probably isn’t for you, @HritikKumar . There are other exams.

Is there any way of actually studying for the exam other than just practicing? My teacher told us not to worry about studying at all

My D’s AP Lang teacher has been assigning timed essays (same format as AP exam) every day for the past two weeks. Of course she isn’t able to give detailed feedback on all of them, but D says it is really helping her get a feel for the pacing.

Tips for multiple choice???

What did you guys think about the exam? I thought the essays had reasonable prompts (nothing crazy) and the MC was slightly harder than mock tests. Felt like I at least got a 3 but hoping for a 4.

@masterblackninja MC was definitely a challenge and i had to guess a lot due to limited time. my teacher gave us practice MC with around the same difficulty, the whole class would always get about half right because they were so hard. but yeah i wouldnt be surprised with a 3 or 4, essays were expected, nothing too hard.

@masterblackninja MC was was easier than expected except for one passage. I was very happy with the essay prompts, all something that I have a strong opinion about. Thank you College Board!! Felt like at least a 4.

@dongsausage312 @sewin2music Sweet I guess the essays were decent for everyone.

just saying, the CB wants you to write about Trump for the last 2 essays, so that the margin of screwup is larger for the liberals who only have an opinion, but not a brain, about the election of 2016. thought this was a clever move… tricking kids to take a liberal stance when you never know the grader’s political affiliation

@thetex I wouldn’t read too much into the prompt. They started making the test well over two years ago

I grew up in Cambodia and am not used to the American testing system, so this was my first American test. I was more worried about coloring the circles, than I did about the questions if I’m honest, especially because we were reminded many times to make sure they were dark and fully colored in. I didn’t even get to read the last passage of the MCQ because I spent most of my time trying to get the circles as dark as possible, but that’s not a valid excuse. With five minutes left on the clock, I ended up picking random answers. The essay prompts were nice, though. Overall, I think it went great

Does anyone know where the passage on the mother and daughter is from?
