Ap English Language as a Sophomore

I'm currently a Freshman and about a month and a half ago the head of the English department and my own English 9 teacher approached me with the opportunity to take Ap English my sophomore year. I said yes, mainly because my school has no honors classes and recently discontinued the only Ap class open to sophomores so I figured it was my only chance to start "padding up my application". Shameless I know.

However, some threads (particularly this one http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/934767-3-ap-classes-for-sophomore-year.html) have made me start to wonder if it was such a good idea to begin with. I'm pretty sure I'm not the first person to have done this at my school (at least one other girl has), and it's not like I won't get credit for English 10 seeing as I've already done all the coursework required for an A in the class. Still I'm getting a bit nervous and wanted varied opinions. So is it worth it or should I talk to my counselor and get English 10 instead?

Here's my current schedual for next year as reference:
AVID 10
World History
Algebra 2
Ap Language
French 2
Co-ed Pe 2
Biology

You’ll be fine. AP Lang is honestly not that different except you will read at a faster pace and work on some different materials (more analytically essay writing) than your freshman year class. It depends on the school, so I’d take what you read on CC with a grain of salt. See what other students have to say, but again take that with a grain of salt. You are your own person and it seems like you are an extremely strong english student. I probably could have taken Lang as a sophomore and it wouldn’t have made a huge difference. I find that different english classes focus on different things so you don’t necessarily need one before the other. Besides any good AP lang class will prepare you for the AP test, which if you do well on is a major plus later on.

Unless it’s notoriously hard at your school, I would say go for it to give experience for future AP classes and I don’t think 1 will be too much. Besides if you take it next year you can have one less AP class Junior or Senior year to ease up your schedule.

Why wouldn’t you take it?

The only reason I has considered not taking it at first is because there was a schedule conflict and I had to chose it over my engineering class. The Ap English class at my school has the second best pass rate at my school behind the Ap Spanish class. Also I was reading in the other thread that you still need to do four years of English even if you have four years of English credit which seemed a bit ridiculous to me.

Oh, scheduling conflicts. Those suck big-time.
