AP English

~Questions~
What are the best prep books for the AP English exam?
Where can I find a large, complete vocabulary list of literary terms for the exam?
Any advice on the essays? How long do scorers typically like it to be? How should I prepare for them? What do scorers like to read in essays?

Is this for AP English Language?

  1. I used Princeton Review, but Cliff Notes is highly recommended by many users here.
  2. Princeton Review has a list of rhetoric terms. I made flash cards with those for the rhetoric essay, and it worked for me. You can probably also find some online.
  3. I would say mine were 5 - 6 paragraphs on average, but my main suggestion would be to write in your style. Don't try to fit into some stiff mold. However, if you're unsure, the 5 paragraph, intro->body->conclusion is always safe.

Get a prep book and take some practice tests! There are three types you’ll want to prepare for: the one where you combine 6 sources and take a side, the rhetoric analysis one, and the one where you use your own evidence to make a point. Get used to all three.

I don’t know for sure, but I think they’re looking for someone who can analyze and write a strong essay. Princeton Review said something like “readers want an essay that’s easy to score.” Be direct, but write with your voice.

Good luck, and let me know if you have any other questions!
