How hard is the AP Environmental class, generally? Is it a lot of reading/studying/work? I'm deciding whether or not to take it...

All I know is that it's one of the easiest APs offered....

Pretty easy self study.

It is extremly easy. I read a few things about it being hard and the review book I got (i think barrons) said something like don't blow off studying for this exam because it is one of the hardest AP exams but all that is lies, or it was written by someone who has 0 background knowledge in science. You could probably answer 2/3 questions on the exam using common sense plus what you have learned in your other science classes. The last 1/3 questions you can learn easily by scimming over a text or review book.

The class itself at my school was really easy(but thats because we had a really cool, easy teacher).

i had the class this year and yes a lot of it is common sense. some parts are a little tricky and specific.

easiest AP by far. if you have common sense and don't overthink the questions because they appear too easy you will do well.

yah, if you get less than 36/40 on the FR then you're in need of help, and there are maybe 20 MC questions that require even an iota of studying...

bumper cars.

also, for future clarification, i mean the class itself. is that hard?

lol, don't take a class. Just read a book for two weeks...

Can you guys explain why only 9% of all kids get 5s if it is THAT easy. I wouldn't get too cocky or arrogant.

the class itself will vary from high school to high school, however, i can't imagine it being too hard anywhere after taking it my senior year. i was able to make a 100 by studying for daily quizzes and tests right before the class in lunch while still talking to my friends.

spidey, you realise that on CC you are not dealing with an accurate sample of the ENTIRE population of APES takers, rather the most intelligent subset of it. THese people are either naturally dedicated to study OR have firm science bases....thus even 9% of ~50,000 (Idk how many people take APES) is actually about 4500 people, a great fraction of which contains CC people.

^Not to mention the fact that there aren't many bright, dedicated students who take APES.

^yeah, to put it blunt most APES students are brother beelows or just about LOL!

a broad knowledge of the sciences will prepare you. get the PR review book as well. also be up to date on recent env. news like global warming, energy conservation, etc.

A lot of smart kids take APES at my school, and then there are some who don't take any/many other APs. One of the hardest teachers in my school teaches this class making the "it's a joke AP" assessment completely untrue. The information itself isn't hard, but we had so much work attached to it. It was really annoying to pretty much have colleges probably discount the high grade I got in the class, thinking it was easy. In most cases though, I think it's a pretty easy class. I'm not sure how the class would be at all schools but I really enjoyed and felt I got a lot out of taking the class. I didn't really study much for the AP so I have no idea how that's going to work out, but I thought the class itself was really worthwhile even if i didn't remember all the little details, a lot of it is common sense though.

Do not take APES unless you need a 5 to boost your average to get an ap scholar award. Outside of an easy five is the most boring and useless AP class you'll take in high school. All I did last year in my APES class was take notes read newspaper articles and do meaningless labs. Its a waste of time because you could probably study for the exam the night before having never seen the material and still get a decent grade.

Other than taking the class for an exam grade of 5, can't you also take it for the GPA boost? I don't see why many people don't take the class... I mean if you already have a super hard schedule (i.e. 4 more HARD APs), taking another easier AP class wouldn't be as bad as taking a regular class right?

^ exactly why i took the class. free 110 added into my average.

The class itself was not hard; I easily got an A. However, when you are studying for the AP and for all of the other APs, it can become tough. APES is one of the hardest APs to get a 5 on because only ~9% of all test-takers receive one. However, the class itself should be pretty easy.
