I’m a second semester freshman that cannot makeup my mind on what classes to choose for next year. I am 100% a math a science student and history is one of my least favorite subjects but it is the only AP offered at my school for sophomores and since I’m gonna take so many AP’s as a junior (Ap calc, bio, etc) I don’t want to jump from 0-100 and be completely unprepared. I am personally leaning towards ap human since it’s not just memorization and history like euro but I’ve heard the tests are very hard. Then ap euro I’ve heard the essays and reading and overall coursework were hard but the tests were easy. How was ur experience with either? What should I do to prepare for the ap test? What is something u knew before u took the class?
I’m a sophomore currently taking AP European History but I have not taken AP Human Geography because my school does not offer it. However, AP Euro has been a lot of work for me, even though I love history. The course starts from 1300-present day which is about 700 years of history to cover. The tests are okay, but if you don’t study and cram, you will fail. Honestly, if history is one of your least favorite subjects, I would not recommend taking AP Euro and go with AP Human.
AP Human is pretty interesting. If you’re not wild about history, you might prefer it.
AP human geography is a “gateway course” for freshmen and sophomores. It’s designed to help you master what Ap classes require but it’s easier than a college course (it’ll rarely carry credit).
AP Euro is harder - still spread over one year instead of one semester in college, but most of the content is there and you will have a lot more reading/writing than for AP Human Geography.
I took AP Human Geo as freshmen, now taking AP World History as a sophomore. My teacher also teaches AP Euro, and he strongly suggests AP Euro for ONLY seniors because the thinking process, writing, and all that is pretty difficult and takes several APs to get used to the format.
AP Human Geo was hard for me, but I survived and it’s really interesting. It’s a modern class, and I think you’ll like it if you prefer contemporary, society type topics. I think it has helped me get used to AP World too.
Good luck with your classes
