If I have the chance, should I switch to AP European History or AP World History… I know tons of people taking AP World next year, but I’m not sure. I think AP World is tougher, but everyone is taking it so I’m not sure which to take.
Also, this year I am taking AP Human Geography and acing it. Whichever class I choose next year, it won’t count towards graduation.
AP World is definitely seen as more rigorous than Human Geo. I personally loved AP World (although like all things, your school and teacher may vary) and would reccomend you take it.
AP Human Geography is widely regarded as one of the easiest APs so don’t let it convince you that all APs will be that easy to ace. With that said though, if you’re aiming to have high academic rigor then take whichever one of those APs interests you more. I’d guess that world would be regarded slightly better (though honestly it probably won’t make a difference which one).
It doesn’t really matter with regards to how it looks to colleges. If you have no preference between the two, I’d just take the one your friends are taking.
Whatever you are more interested in. AP Euro is regarded as more difficult, but I’ve found it to be pretty good because I’m interested it. Would you rather learn about the world in a broad aspect or become an expert on one topic (European history), is what one of my teachers asked my class in 9th grade.
Well AP Human Geo is the only AP course available for freshmen at my school, so I took it. It’s been a little demanding, but that’s because I’m just a freshman. Next year, I plan to take two sciences as well as AP World or AP Euro. Thanks for the help guys.
whichever have the better teacher
All of which is true. However, the original poster is currently taking APHG and is asking what to take next year.
So back to the question. APWH vs. APEH. It does not matter. Take whichever one interests you more/has the better teacher/has the better chance of getting a higher grade/has a better track record on the AP exams. FWIW, APEH globally has traditionally had a higher percentage of 5’s.
Thanks so much, I want to take European History because I believe it is more interesting and an easier teacher.
My teacher has said that he believes AP Euro is harder, but I’m sure it varies from school to school. I took APHG last year and am taking AP World this year. It’s definatley a higher volume of work and takes more time, but I’m maintaining about the same grades as last year.
I took world last year and am self-studying Euro. I’d say Euro is easier and more interesting
@nyuhopeful44 I’ve heard European is easier because AP World is just extremely broad and too much to handle.
@Madeline25 Why does AP World take more time than AP Human Geography (APHG takes tons of time for me because our teacher makes us read each key chapter and take a quiz on each key issue in the textbook, so I don’t see any other AP course taking much more time than APHG for me).
Workload in any AP class is highly dependent upon the individual teacher. It may take a lot of timer, but the material is fairly easy.
Wait until AP Bio/Chem/Physics C.
The material in APHG is extremely easy (just basic common sense), but my teacher does the quizzes each day to say that we “earned the AP credit” (which I agree with). I plan on taking AP Bio and AP Physics my junior and senior year so don’t be getting my hopes down… lol, but I believe AP Bio is just tons of memorization and Physics is basically just all math.
I didn’t say they were hard, although it depends on the student. But they are time consuming, particularly with the labs.
I believe it just depends on the teacher… hopefully they will be easy to understand. Would you recommend AP Bio or AP Environment my junior year (taking Honors Chemistry and Honors Bio next year)
Yes it does highly depend on the teacher. I do feel like AP World has more material to cover. However it might just be that it is more broad and not as deep; it’s hard to tell.
Yeah, the broad part is why I think I’ll prefer European.
