AP European History vs World History

My school by default offers World History for sophomores. My friends and I were thinking about taking AP European history instead next year which would fulfill our World History requirements. Do you think APEH is too hard for sophomores or is there a real benefit to taking it over World History?</p>

<p>WHAP is easier than people make it seem; it is very general because of the time frame.APEH is hard,very in depth,and it is exacerbated if you have a bad teacher.It focuses on Europe from 1450-present, and has more memorization.The AP test is similar to WHAP and APUSH, with subtle variations.If you want to learn about several useless kings/events that wont be tested and read 40 pages per chapter take APEH. I will say their is heavy overlap between WHAP and APEH which makes it easier if you took WHAP first then APEH.</p>

<p>Also, most schools give little credit hours to these courses(about 3 hours each).</p>

<p>If so, take APEH. It is not <em>that</em> difficult, and makes APWH easier afterwards. My students take the following Social Studies AP sequence (we’re a social studies excellence school):
• 1st Year: AP Human Geography, AP Government (US+Comparative)
• 2nd Year: AP World History, AP Social Studies Elective
• 3rd Year: AP European History, AP US History</p>

<p>I love teaching APEH to students who already took APWH and vice versa.</p>

<p>AP European History is good for two things:

  • prepares you for future AP courses
  • learn the interesting past of Europe and its people</p>

<p>AP Euro and AP World are equally as hard. If you are more of a “big picture” kind of person, then you might have an easier time taking AP World. If you like learning about a specific part of the world, then AP Euro is for you. </p>

<p>In terms of the test:</p>

<li>The Multiple Choice section for AP Euro is insanely hard, but the FRQs are very easy</li>
<li>The Multiple Choice section for AP World is insanely easy, but the FRQs were broad and somewht difficult.</li>
