AP Exam grades and AP class grades

OK, so in my ap chem class, my teacher has given us statistics regarding grades in his class and AP scores. He gave the following info...

Final Grades for the Year (2008-2009 school year)
7% got A's
32% got B's
56% got C's
3% got D's
2% got F's

AP Exam Scores for the Same Class
83% got 5's
11% got 4's
4% got 3's
0% got 2's
2% got 1's

Isn't there something wrong here? Should I ask my teacher about it? These statistics are definitely indicating that something is off about the AP exam or about his class.

Well, it seems that your AP Chem teacher was teaching last year’s class rigorously, preparing them well for the AP exam.

Oh hey Jerrry, it’s you again. thanks for answering yet another one of my questions. I’m just a bit paranoid is all…more paranoid with every day being closer to the AP exam! :0

Wow, I wish I was in that class! Most of the people that averaged with a C in the class either got a 4 or a 5 on the AP exam it looks like. You should be happy. You’re set for the test.

I hope you’re one of those people with A’s or B’s because you are certainly going to get a 4 or 5 on the exam.

It seems that the teacher practices grade deflation but prepares his students very well for the AP test.

Often times your grade in the class won’t necessarily have any bearing on your grade on the AP exam. Last year in APUSH I had an A and got a 4 on the exam, while my friend had a C and got a 5 on the exam.

Haha, sounds exactly like our class. His class is extremely difficult, but he gets many high scores. Estimated for this year:

A’s: 18%
B’s: 46%
C’s: 36%
D’s: 0%
F’s: 0%

5’s: 45%
4’s: 27%
3’s: 28%

It’ll be interesting to see the actual results. Good luck!

That is a really impressive pass rate. I wish I had a class with those stats. I’m guessing the 2% F was also the 2% 1.

^same thought exactly

lol yup. Thats how most ap classes are. The teacher will overburden you with a bunch of pointless work to do. Thats why I say its so much better to do self-study. You only cover the stuff you need to know. AP exams aren’t difficult when you break it down and study exactly what is tested on the exam.
