With the upcoming spanish AP this tuesday, I'm beginning to rethink my decision to take the AP. I'm not taking the AP course at my school, (I'm only in Fourth year spanish), and I simply decided to sign up for the AP because 1. I can get it paid for and 2. I might be able to squeeze out a four. I'm planning on 5s on all my other APs, but my only question is that I'm running the risk of a 2 or a 3 if I screw this exam up. I only got 44/75 on a multiple choice practice exam, and I'm not the best at speaking. Next year I plan on applying to some highly selective colleges (YPSM).

Would a 2 or a 3 on a foreign language exam hurt my app at all (I'm white) as long as the rest of my AP, SAT I, and SAT II scores are adequate?

Could I just cancel the score if I don't like it? Are there any drawbacks to to that?

Since I'm not in the AP course, would a college have any way of knowing if I took the AP before I'm admitted if I don't self-report the score?

And finally, I plan on matriculating as an engineering major. Would they even care about my score on a Spanish Language AP at all?

I'm only tempted to take the AP because I might get a 4 and be able to place out of college-spanish classes, which would be nice. I don't want to take that risk at the expense of hurting my app, however.
