AP history!!!!

what AP history textbooks do you all use? We have tindall and shi,

<a href="http://www.ecampus.com/bk_detail.asp?isbn=0393973395&referrer=yah04%5B/url%5D">http://www.ecampus.com/bk_detail.asp?isbn=0393973395&referrer=yah04</a></p>

AMerica: a narrative history , and the authors CANNOT write. They just pour you facts without connections in old english, stuff kinda like "and the sun of Abraham's soul would never set in the eyes of an america so burderned by the effects of war, as was the result of the aforementioned outcome" blah, blah, blah. THe book is so bad that they stopped printing it altogether years ago cuz teachers stopped ordering them.

ANyways, I am considering getting a new AP hsitory text, so i will skim what is in my school text, and then read out of the new text I bought (b/c the school tests are in depth and not something REA or PR will answer).

So far people have recommended American PAgenent and AMerican history, a narrative by ALan Brinkely.

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0072936703/102-6987271-6584914?v=glance&n=283155&n=507846&s=books&v=glance%5B/url%5D">http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0072936703/102-6987271-6584914?v=glance&n=283155&n=507846&s=books&v=glance</a></p>

AMerican pagent seems to be tedious. I need a text that's written in MODERN lanugage and instead of giving you facts in an annoying "
poetic langauge," gives you CONNECTIONS. for those of you that have the one by ALan Brinkely, would you recommend it?

also, what text DO YOU have?????? would you recommend it?

anybody willing to help?
thanks so much, (sorry for a long post)

I used American Pagenent. I liked that it lacked the vocab words, end of chapter questions, etc. that many textbooks have. It was a funny textbook and said some crazy stuff, but it was made any topic at least mildly entertaining.

Frankly, I think the American Pageant is written for entertainment. The whole Revolutionary War was summed up in about half a chapter. Most of the book is filled with fluff and very strange metaphors. if you read it like you would a novel or something in English, then you can pick up the summary of America's history, but nothing deeper. Go to collegeboard.com and you may find something there that may help you.

bring up my post...

we use American Pageant... not the best... but not the worst. Besides, if there are vocab lists and end of the chapter questions, can you imagine how thick that book is going to be? I don't think I would like to carry that!

We use "Out of Many", which is pretty good, but almost overly thorough.

American Pageant here. The notes on the web were able to keep me from reading it, but I heard it was boring.

Ha! American Pageant here as well! It wasn't the best text book as far as preparing students for the AP exam, but I agree with Corranged, it was an insanely hilarious text book. The authors use such witty prose in their descriptions, funny metaphors.... and then there's the information you can live without (like Presidents dying from intestinal problems etc...eh the descriptions there were....too vivid).
Rather than liking the text book, I LOVED our APUSH review book! I think it was a combination of our AMSCO APUSH review book, our intense review sessions, and our great teacher, that I got a 5! I got the only 5 in my entire school, so perhaps it doesn't work for everyone. I recommend the review book though! Check it out online.
Take care everyone and have a GREAT Thanksgiving!
