I took the IB English Higher Level test in May. I haven't gotten my scores back yet but if I got a 5 on it then I wouldn't have to take ENGL001A. If I got a 6 or 7, then I wouldn't have to take ENGL001A OR ENGL001B. My orientation is on July 1 and 2. If I sign up for ENGL001A for the Fall Quarter, can I drop it after I receive my scores (if I got a 5)? And take something else?

Er, from what I’ve seen so far of how the classes work at UCR, it’s on a basis of whether or not that class is open when you drop and sign up. Myself, I’m not quite sure about this either, since I took the Calc BC AP test, which should place me in math 9C or something, but the results won’t come out until July 1st, which is the day of my orientation.

I’m sorta guessing you can assume you got that 5 or 6 or 7 on your test and sign up before you get the results. Most likely some counselor will be there at orientation to talk with you and figure out what to do

yea same problem here as well. For the ap scores, they release it on 7/1 but you have to call collegeboard to get the scores and its 8$. i think we have to do that

If you indicated UCR as a recipient of the scores on your tests and the scores show up on MyUCR, then they will probably have them available to you by orientation. When I went to my orientation in late July, my academic adviser already had my scores and told me which classes I would get credit for.

So, I just found out that they’ll let you send your report to colleges by phone ON July 1st, so that by the time the processing gets done they’ll make the call a week afterwards. Which means I’m screwed. Do the counselors at orientation make any allowance for this? Or do I have to take classes that are like, low low

NO idea

If the school does not have ur scores by orientation that means you have to take a lower class.
for example
you totally bs the english/math placement exam because you think you got a 5 on Ap test
you can only sign up for remedial english/math class during orientation.
Once scores are actually in, you now have the clearance to take a higher class

at my orientation, people were worried because they did not receive the AP scores in the mail; but, my bear facts counselor had the scores!! so if u have orientation the day they are released, the school should already have them.

so since the scores are available on 7/1, they would have the scores on the honors orientation day right? (7/1-7/2)

yeah they should be. If not the school should have them in by the 2nd. As soon as you leave orientation, u can always go back and change ur schedule if u want to. If for some reason ucr does not give u clearance, as soon as the scores are in you should have clearance and be able to change your schedule.

ok sounds good

Hey, I don’t think the college will have our grades by 7/2, unless getting our report by phone (to ourselves, not the college), counts-

From the AP Student Pack -
“AP Grades by Phone for the 2009 exams is available for a fee of $8 per call beginning on July 1st. You may also send your AP grades by phone for a fee of $15 per college, beginning on July 3rd”

So, the earliest UCR can receive our scores is July 3rd, the last day of orientation

In regard to that, I’m wondering, will the counselors accept paper grade reports that I received by mail for previous years? I have two for soph and junior year that I could bring to orientation

Ok, so since AP scores are already out now, would counselors accept our “word” about our scores? Or would they be willing to listen to the 8 dollar phone report…

If that’s the case then I’m happy :D

Counselors cannot take your word on the scores. All they will say is ok, but they cant give you the clearance on the computer. So if u are really determined, you can ask ur counselor that you are willing to call the Ap board and they should designate you to the right person that will listen to the call and give you clearance on the computer.

Well, I called someone from the orientation program and they said that they would have my scores ready for tomorrow

Although I don’t really know how they did that…

They received it by computer. Schools get them wayyyyyyyyy before us
