CB just sent out the awards yesterday (November 30), so don't worry if you haven't gotten yours yet. It's on the way.

finally got 'em...AP Scholar w/ Disctinction ( from NJ )

Question! :)

I received a 5, 5, 4, 3, and 2. The average seems to be 3.8, right? I called Collegeboard to ask if I was receiving an award, and they said AP Scholar with Honor.
But I thought that if you got a 3 or more on four exams and your average was a 3.5, you got an AP Scholar with Distinction award.
I didn't get a chance to ask while they were open, so... does anyone know whether different tests count for less?

I took US History, Spanish Lit, English Composition, Chem, and Biology, respectfully.

Argh. So I called today, and the woman who answered was NONE too helpful. After putting me on hold for a while, she said that they were "in the process of mailing them," she couldn't confirm whether or not I was getting one, and that they'll be done sending them by December 10th (What happened to Mid-November CB??).

sabrina...its 3 or higher on 5 exams for distinction

justforgetme, I also called CB today and they told me that they had just sent out the reports on the 30th (see my above post), but then again, that could be wrong. The receptionists probably don't know anyway.

Anyway, you'll probably get one soon. I haven't received mine either, but whatever.

Yeah, the CB lady was rude to me too. Seems like they always have attitude/patience problems when students call.

Oh, I see! :D Lol, thank you, dwintz!

i got mine, what's so special about it though, if so many people have gotten it

damn still haven't gotten mine

whats so special about it???

It's really not that special unless you get something like AP State Scholar or National AP Scholar.

pff great

But it's still noteworthy. It's not a sham like the National Honor Society, and I guess, in reality, it's still a very beneficial award if you're applying to a school that's not highly, highly competitive.

At Ivy League schools, 70% of their applicants probably have an AP Scholar award of some type.

its not the award thats meaningful, really. It's what you do to get it (take alot of AP's)

National Honor Society isn't a sham. There's something that sounds similar to it that is, though.

National Honor Society isn't the sham, National Honor Roll is though

i think NHS is a sham. it is a meaningless award that i think is given just to make peopel feel better who can make semi - decent grades

so do people get AP awards after they take their senior year AP tests too (so they get the award after they go off to college)? or is it only after their junior year APs? because the CB website said that 30,000 recieved AP Scholar w/ Distinction last year( what i will get this year) and i dont think that sounds reasonable for JUST juniors. is it juniors+seniors?

yea it's seniors. ap national award went to like 2000+? people and i know for a fact that only 70-90 juniors got it, so the rest must be seniors.

ok, so you dont get awards for AP tests that you take second semester of senior year, right? only all AP tests taken up until junior year. so even if i take 15 AP tests my senior year and get all 5s, i wont win AP State Scholar because i graduated, and it will go to a kid that will be a senior next year?

nevermind that, i just read istar's post, so i guess you can get AP awards after you graduate. and im assuming the spread sheet they have on the website, when they say "grade:10, 11, 12" that means the last grade of school they completed?
