ap scores & college apps

where do scores show up on college apps? is it necessary to show them at all? if classes were taken and the AP exam grades were cancelled will that look bad?

also, are retakes a possibility for AP tests?

okay i'm now seeing the featured discussion on my exact question. my additional one still stands however, does it look bad to cancel/are retakes possible?

"does it look bad to cancel/are retakes possible?"

Of course it doesn't look good, but it's not going to break you. And to your second question, I don't know; but I have never heard of anybody retaking an AP test.

so which would be better, keeping the bad score and showing effort i guess, or cancelling it all together.

It depends on what you consider "bad."

assuming the worst, 2 or even a 1.

would a 4 help you for college app's if that was the only AP you took or do the ivys want 5's?

AP scores are self-reported on the application. If you don't want to show the 1, don't list it. The only school that gets the official report, listing everything, is the one that you're going to attend. You won't be revoked for not putting in a score (it's like self-directed "score choice" in your apps).

If you're currently a junior, retaking an AP won't do anything for you. They're given once a year, and by the time the senior AP test time rolls around, you've already gotten all your acceptances. Scores don't come out until late June/early July, so they're not helpful for admissions.

For admissions purposes, AP test scores are the least important statistic you have.
