So I took several APs this year. Calc BC, Physics B, and Chem. I am planning to use Calc BC to get out of Math 1a and 1b.

here is the problem:

AP scores wont come out until like mid July. If i got a 5, how I can go to CalSO (June 11/12) and tell them i dont want to take 1a and 1b?

Thanks for replying

So, here’s how it works:

You go to CalSO, and an extremely socialable CalSO counselor, who is an older student, leads your group thru the program and gives you all the advice.

Then, at one point during CalSO, you will be prompted to register for up to 10.5 units of classes on TeleBears. Exactly what you decide to register for is actually your choice. Prereqs aren’t strictly checked, and the course schedules can always be modified later.

For example, I signed up for MATH55 and then petitioned for 53/54 credit sometime in late-October.

So, if you’re quite confident that you got a 5 on AP Calculus BC, just go ahead and register for MATH53. This isn’t high school, where you live under the wrath of your counselor.

Like excelblue said, you should go ahead and register for Math 53. Even if you don’t end up getting the 5 on the AP test, you can go ahead and finish Math 53 first and take the Math 1A/1B series later. From personal experience, the material in Math 53 isn’t very complicated and you shouldn’t have much trouble with it as long as you had a reasonable grasp in your AP Calculus class.

alright then. thanks!
