AP Stat or AP Calc BC?

I'm feeling torn about what to do for math next year. I'm definitely not going to a math/science major (political science most likely).

Anyways, we have a wonderful AP Calculus AB teacher at our school. He's the best math teacher I've ever had. However, I didn't do that great in his class. I got an A first semester, but a B second semester. I didn't really feel like I understood anything about integration. As a result, I signed up for AP Statistics because I felt that it would be a better fit for me, especially since I'm not a math/science person.

Would it look bad to competitive schools if I took AP Stat instead of AP Calc BC? I'm already taking four other AP classes besides my AP math class, so I'm still going to have a challenging schedule.

If you think you can get an A in BC Calc, go with that. However it seems as though you’re not confident in your calculus ability so, IMO, you made the right decision.
An A in a less rigorous AP class is better than a B in a more rigorous AP class; especially if you’re not planning on being a STEM major.

For a poli sci major, statistics is more beneficial. You’ll be fine.

I agree AP Statistics should be better for you.

Take stat

Colleges don’t really distinguish between AB and BC for admission purpose, especially not if you’re not going into STEM fields.
In addition, as a rule of thumb, don’t take an AP class where you’re not confident you will get a B or higher.
Also, Statistics is a better choice for a future poli-sci major.
In short: no benefit to BC, higher likelihood of drawbacks, and you have a better choice in stats => you chose well.

Question:Hello I have the same concern as akacesfan above, only my concern is whether to take AP Calc BC OR AB:

My situation:

involves the fact that currently I’m in Pre-calculs and maintaining a high A.However, i have heard that AP Calc BC is strenous and fast-paced. I have always been good at math, but I do not want to end up with a C in the class.

So my question is AP Calc BC worth it with a B for the year to AP Calc AB with an A hopefully?
AP Calc BC presumably has a better curve and the AB Subscore but, is this worth my time considering my schedule which it this next year:

I am trying to decide if my senior course load is rigorous enough:

 • AP Calculus(AB or BC)
 • AP Physics
 • AP Stats
 • AP Macro-Economics
 • AP Govn’t and Law
 • Advanced Senior Seminar(English)
 • Science Research Honors Program( like the one that that enter Intel ISEF competition and SIEMENS)

I have taken this AP’s so far:
-AP Euro(5)
-AP Bio(4)
-AP Chem(dk no yet hoping for a 5)

Is this enough for a Straight BS-MD Program and would Med School require a math class caliber of BC Calc as it provides 2 semester of credit.

*I’m not neccesarily aiming for a prestigious university but a decent one

I would tremendously appreciate your help!!! Thanks!=)

k understand

Alright, thanks for the help everyone! I was already leaning towards stat, but it’s good to know that you all think I’m making the right decision. You were all extremely helpful!
