AP Stat: worth it?

Is AP Stat really worth it for someone who's taken AP Calc and isn't planning on going into genetics? I've heard that it's not "real math" and it's more focused on writing. The problem is, that will be the only AP math course left for me in my senior year, but the teacher at my school is really bad, and the only other students taking it are the ones too lazy to take calculus.

Has anyone taken AP Stat? Would you say it's really important?

I'm taking AP Stat online right now for the same reason - I ran out of math classes to take. If the teacher is really that bad, you could try to take a stat class at a nearby college or take it online. It's not particularly difficult, nor does it seem like the kind of thing that would be important or useful. So no, I would not call it "really important", I would call it "AP Slack".

Your situation sounds exactly like mine at the beginning of this year (down to every last detail). I tried it but ended up switching out because I hated the teacher so much. I'd only do it if you really want the extra college credit.

oh im soo lucky, my stat teacher is one of the best ones!! he is awesome! the best math teacher i've ever had!!

its relatively easy. not bad for a senior year course. you can easily get a 4 with no effort, and a 5 with some. might as well.

Would you say it's necessary if you want to go into research?

depends on your field. a lot of fields DO use statistics (economics, finance, etc). necessary? I have no clue.

I'm taking Calc junior year then hoping to never take another math class again in my life if I can avoid it.

If it weren't for AP Stats I wouldn't have been able to do my research project. It's without a doubt the single most useful class I've taken in high school.

(Then again, my research was on population genetics, so...)

(Well, I guess statistics is really important for experimental scientists too, they do a lot of data analysis and it's nice to know why the statistical software you use actually works. Plus it'll show you a different way of seeing the world. So take it. :p)

It's useful, but the AP class doesn't do you any justice. For instance, my research involved ANOVA and Duncan test post hoc...I could see the latter not being in the curriculum, but ANOVA? Come on, Collegeboard.

Also...if you want the ultimate AP Stat review sheet, well I made it and after I get the last remaining hard copy from my friend to scan, copy, etc. I can hook you up.

I think statistics is an important subject, but the AP class at highschool is a complete joke. This year I sleep or study for something else everyday and I haven't dont a single hw and I still manage an A on every test... 3 minutes before the test i read the bold words in the text book and thats all it takes.
