I am a current junior in high school and I am registering for senior classes. I know FOR SURE i want to major in psychology so I am taking AP Psych. I will be taking Precalc next year as well and possibly AP stats. My math teacher told me I will benefit from taking AP stats with AP psych, for they go hand-in-hand at some occassions. Have any of you taken these AP courses? WHat are they like? I heard psych is fun and exceedingly interesting. Stats i heard is quite easy. I have a roughly a 98% in Algebra 2/trig and my math teacher said I should do fine taking precalc and ap stats concurrently. Any opinions on economics, sociology, and physics as well?sorry so many questions

ap psych sucks. am taking it now and it really sucks the big one. be prepared to do a "mini-study" or project once a week. besides that, the class is pretty interesting. just the mini-studies that ****es me off

stats is usually considered a blow off class because the ap test doesn't cover much information, and the information that is covered is fairly easy and can be self-studied.

i suggest taking ap physics. it's a fun and challenging class w/ lots of conceptual and logical thinking involved!

I'm a mediocre (compared to most kids on this board) math student, and I agree that AP Stats is a joke....at least so far. I hope it doesn't get any harder, because it's so nice not to have to think about it much. As for concurrent enrollment, I'm taking Calc at the same time as AP Stats without a problem.

Both AP Psych and AP Stat are extremely easy. I disagree with gh0st - the type of work you get depends on who your teacher is. My AP Psych teacher gave almost no work and her class was a joke. If you want to major in psychology, you're going to have to take a good number of statistics courses. I think you should take AP Psych, AP Stat, and Precalc at the same time. I did that last year and I found all 3 classes to be very easy.

THanks for the replies...and I heard the AP psych teachers at my school aren't too demanding.

Stats i heard is easy as long as I do my homework and keep up... and the concepts being taught are those I should have already learned in previous math courses, but just a step more complex.

AP Stat is joke it should be revised to include calculus based probability modeling. That would make it a challenge and a real AP class and test.

Last year, as a junior, I took psych first semester, and AP psych second semester. I believed that really helped me out, because it reduced the amount of concepts that I had to brush up on, in order to get into the AP mix. As a senior, I am taking AP Statistics. Our class is definitely not a blow off class, most likely because my instructor's test are said to be twice as hard as the AP Test. As for AP Pysch/AP Stat relationships, AP Stat covers some of the statistical concepts covered in experimental psychology, but there is no significant connection. But these two courses are my high school favorites, and I suggest taking them both. And there are many students in my AP Stat class taking precal, and the two dont conflict at all. good luck
