AP Statistics - drop/take the D? University of Pittsburgh

I just found out that I will be getting a D in AP Statistics this semester (2nd). I did everything I possibly could: I worked my hardest, went after school for help, did all of my homework, moved to the very front of the classroom, etc, apparently is just isn't clicking. Pitt wants my midyear reports before making a decision on my admission. I'm going to ask my teacher if there is possibly anything else I can do, but obviously the chance is small, even if she knows I work really hard. Would it be better for me to drop the class before sending my midyear report out or send the D? I am stressing out big time; Pitt is my #1 school. I didn't even really need to take a math this year; I did it to challenge myself, broaden my knowledge, and obviously impress colleges. Apparently statistics is not my calling! I'm going to speak with my guidance counselor as well, I was just hoping I could get some opinions from everybody on here. Thanks!
