AP Stats

Can you take AP Stats and Honors Algebra II at the same time and still ace AP Stats?

Yes. I don’t see why not.

at our school Alg II is a prereq for Stats

It is a prerequisite at my school too - but I’m often able to get around school policy - so I’m wondering if you need Algebra II level math for AP Statistics.

I think it’ll be fine.
Although algebra 2 is a pre-requisite for AP Statistics at my school as well.

Would it be more practical to take Honors Algebra 2 and Honors Precalc at the same time, provided I can bypass the prerequisite rule, than to take Honors Algebra 2 and AP Stats?

Just because you can bypass school prerequisites doesn’t mean you should- they’re there for a reason. Take Alg II now and precalc and statistics next year. It’s what I did and I never encountered a problem.

OP, do that^

DO NOT take algebra II and pre calc at the same time. That is an AWFUL idea!
Instead do what mathfreak4 said. Take algebra II this year and stats + pre calc next year. Or take Algebra II this year with discrete or advanced functions or something.

I’m taking algebra II first semester and then AP stats second

To answer the original question: yes you can take alg. 2 and ace stats. The math in stats is simple plus you have a calculator. I did have precal when I took it but I’m sure I could have easily done this without it. If you can follow directions (like a cookbook) then you can ace stats.

There were one or two topics I remember specifically that did require a bit of Algebra 2 knowledge. It’s nothing terrible; the actual math you do, in most cases, is relatively simple. The class is largely based on calculator techniques and their applications. If you’re up for it, then it should be no problem.

Side Note: I don’t know if this will actually be a problem, but it’s worth mentioning. The formulas may look very overwhelming at first, especially if you don’t have the Alg2/PreCal background, but you’ll find they’re actually pretty easy to work with.

There’s not a lot of advanced algebra in AP stats. You might see the occasional logarithmic transformation (which idk if it occurs on the AP test), and some probability questions involving algebra. In any case, it definitely helps to be familiar with algebra and basic probability before taking AP stats.
