Do you need prior training in art in order to take this class?

If you don't have prio training, what is your purpose of taking it?

I just thought regular Art would be too easy.
I like to challenge myself.

there is no "test"
its basically a portfolio of the works you did throughout the years.

but you do need to write an essay about your art and its meaning and stuff

So, would it be possible to convince the AP Studio Art teacher at my school to let me take the class?

bump......

Does your school not have prerequisites for AP classes? At daughters school you would have had to have two years worth (yes, years worth, not semesters) to be allowed into Studio AP. Beginning art teaches many fundamentals that must be practiced and understood before attempting something as challenging as Studio AP. You should check with the teacher and ask to see examples of what the beginning students do in Art I, Art II and what students are doing in Studio AP. You might gain some appreciation to how difficult a class it may be.

Thank you.

Anyone else???????

ap studio art is, in my opinion, the hardest ap there is. not many people get 5's... if you check the grade distribution

there is so much work that goes into creating a portfolio of ~28 pieces of art. you can't just take the class and expect to automatically get a 5 if you work hard; you must also have talent and years of experience

in addition, it's very costly... mats cost a bunch if you don't cut them yourself, it cost me $100 to get slides made, ap fee by itself is around $90... etc etc

i took it this year, and if you procrastinate like i did, the few weeks before the day portfolios are due will be utter hell.

the essay mentioned by a previous post is not really an essay, just a few paragraphs stating your intent

on a lighter note, i took the class and believe i improved ENORMOUSLY at drawing and painting... you discover things by yourself and you will get better.

^ I think it's far from the hardest AP (though it is hard to score a 5), but it definitely takes a lot of work

anyway, there should be 24 pieces in your portfolio. 12 breadth (that show your versatility as an artist) and 12 concentration (a series).
You have 3 portfolios to choose from--drawing, 2D design, and 3D design.

Not really... the 12 concentration pieces should show development and progression of an idea (which doesn't typically include former works).
The breadth pieces can contain former work, but generally people use pieces done over the AP art year.

You don't need prior training, but this this[/url] is what you're up against.

only 2 people in our skool take studio art. they can draw though
