AP Test Sending Question

Hey guys,

I have a question about the process of sending AP Test scores to Wake for this coming fall. When I filled out my first scantron this year I put down that I wanted my scores sent to Wake. The question that I have is are all the scores from all my tests this year automatically sent to them or do I get to see them first and choose which ones I want sent (btw, I don't remember paying ahead of time to have them sent)? The reason I ask is that I don't want to send a 1, 2, or 3 (if I get one of those scores) to Wake for no reason because I won't get credit for them. I actually am not even sure if you get to choose which scores are sent from all of your years of AP tests. Is every single one of your AP test scores sent (even from previous years) even if you just wanted to send a couple, like what the college board used to do with the SAT (all of your SAT scores from all attempts at it were automatically sent even if you just wanted to send one to the college)?

Kinda a confusing read, but if anyone could explain the process and answer my questions that would be great! Also, would Wake get mad at me if I got a 1 or a 2 on a test? The reason I ask is I just basically gave up on my English Lit one because I didn't think there was any chance of getting a 4 or 5 on it considering how bad my essays were (it was the second time I took it, last year I got a 3 on it).

Thanks,
dd

Hi - I’m the AP coordinator at our school - so here’s the deal. If you designated Wake to receive your score report when you completed your first answer sheet - all scores are sent to Wake. The $86 fee per test that you paid to take APs covers this. It is only when you don’t designate a school on the answer sheet and wait to see them first in July and then send the scores that you have to pay a separate fee. (Ridiculous policy, but that’s College Board for you.)

Don’t worry about having low scores on any exams - you will get credit for 4’s and 5’s and anything lower - just means nothing. There is a page on Wake Forest’s website that gives you a correlation between each AP score and what class you get credit for. AP credit cannot be used to satisfy divisional requirements - but it can satisfy calculus if you did well on AP Calculus and it can also be used to satisfy freshman English. Beyond that - it’s just college credit - you start out with some credits - which allows you to take 4 courses per semester rather than 5 perhaps, if you wanted to. My son has enough AP credit that he actually entered as a sophomore - no big deal really - but he did get to register for classes a day early - which was nice.

You will get a copy of your AP score report at home in July. It will show all of the APs you have ever taken and will confirm that it was sent to Wake. The only exception to this is if you have not been consistent in your name. If you used Joey Jones last year and Joseph P. Jones this year - you might have an issue, especially if you did not put your Social Security number on the answer sheet. But if this does happen, all you have to do is call College Board and get them to send the prior report as well.

Finally, you should have the Student Pack from the APs this year given back to you after you complete your final AP exam. Look at page 6-7 - it gives you all the info you need about sending scores and cancelling scores.
