Hey guys! I go to a SoCal high school I'm not sure if I should take APUSH or regular US history for junior year. So far this what my junior year schedule looks like

0- Marching Band
1- AP English
2- Honors Pre-Calc/ Trig
3- AP Chemistry
4- Jazz Ensemble
5- APUSH or Regular US History

Since the UC GPA is only composed of soph and junior year. Here it is!

Sophomore GPA is a 4.2 Weighted (UC)/ 3.4 Unweighted.

I talked with my cousins/ relatives and they say that my weighted GPA is fine but my unweighted gpa is low. I've been taking the most challenging courses offered EXCEPT for my history class. I'm interested in UCI and UCSD. So will one honors/ AP class affect me that much?

Wow, your unweighted is really low. 4.2 is about 3.7-8 in my school.
AP and honors credits may depend on your school. For mine, APs are out of 5, while honors are 4.2.

Take APUSH.

btw, what do you play?

Take APUSH or honors. Don’t do regular.

At my school, honors/ APs are out of 5. Yeah my unweighted is really low. =/ I play alto saxophone! I’m afraid that if I take another AP/ honors class and get another B, both my weighted and unweighted GPA will be lowered. Regardless, I need to do my best to get As this year

Take APUSH.

1) Taking AP English is a sign that you can probably handle it.
2) Getting a B in APUSH instead of an A in regular US History will not lower your weighted GPA: both are worth 4 points.
3) Even if there is a possibility that you will get a B in APUSH, it will make your schedule more rigorous, which helps in admission more than a slightly higher UW GPA. It will also prepare you better for college-level reading and writing. These advantages outweigh the possible disadvantage (at least for me, which is why I’m taking APUSH :)).

You sure you’re calculating Weighted right? There’s a limit to the number of weighted classes you can apply towards you GPA, and there are only certain honors and AP classes you can apply.

For example, you can’t just UC weight the random 9th grade Geometry “Honors” you took. UC weighting is limited to AP/IB classes and certain honors classes such as Chemistry Honors, Alg II Honors, and US History Honors… generally upper core classes.

If you like history, just take AP US. I found it immensely enjoyable.

Umm I think I calculated it correctly. My sophomore year classes were all honors classes except for Band and World History.

Sophomore Year
0- Marching Band (1st sem) - A
1- Regular World History - A / A
2- Honors Algebra II - A / B
3- Honors English 10 - B/ A
4- Jazz Ensemble - A / A
5- Honors/ IB Spanish III - C / B
6- Honors Chemistry B / B

So my soph year I got a 4.2 Weighted and 3.4 Unweighted.

Also, i know that a B in APUSH or an A in regular won’t affect my weighted but won’t it change my unweighted?

Thanks for your opinions/ advice so far!!
