I was wondering what would i need to do if i wanted to sucessfully self study for APUSH. Normally i would take it at my school, where it is indeed offered. However, i dont have the course space to take it and the teacher that teaches it isn't the greatest.

First off, if you want to self study for ap us history get the American pageant textbook (either 13th or 14th edition). Start out by making chapter outlines and making little notes and annotating your textbook. If you want a good review book, I would definitely encourage you to buy amsco, its extremely comprehensive and cheap on Amazon. If you’re more of an audio learner I would encourage you to see if you can find the audio textbook online. I can pm you the link if you want. Also, when it comes to practicing for the essays, I would suggest you look up released free response essays and practice from those. What I suggest you start doing is trying to study how to build a thesis, as this is central to doing well on the exam, at least the essay portion. Actually there is a free course online, go to google and type NROC Advanced placement U.S history and you will see an outline of a standard ap us history course. Follow the assignments and I think you’ll do okay. Pm me if you have any more questions. Hope I helped!

APUSH is a hard class to self-study due to the sheer amount of content. At my school it is offered over 2 years instead of one. With that in mind, a textbook I recommend is The National Experience:

[Amazon.com: The National Experience: A History of the United States (Pt. 1 & 2) (9780155003668): John M. Blum, William S. McFeely, Edmund S. Morgan, Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr., Kenneth M. Stampp: Books](http://www.amazon.com/The-National-Experience-History-United/dp/0155003666)

My school’s program is extremely successful (almost entirely 4s and 5s) despite having 90 students in the program. We use this textbook, and call it Natty-X. Good luck!

@microphakia: Can you post the link for the free online course for APUSH?
