AP US History

I am planning on taking AP US History next year, sophmore year, but I am unsure. I could also take AP Human Geography. I took AP World Freshman year and I got straight A’s. I am wondering what I should do, asking for anybody with experience. I am also taking AP chem, so I am worried the workload might be too much.

My D took APUSH and APHG and though they went together well. She wished she had taken APHG first, but was very glad she at least had it at the same time as APUSH. She used some APHG material in a APUSH project and it went over very well.

She took AP World last year and found APUSH to be a little more challenging. APHG, while having a lot of busy work, was much easier than the other two.

She did not take AP Chem, but heard it is challenging with a lot work.

I would think if you are willing to take on APUSH and AP Chem in the same semester then adding APHG would be doable.

YMMV

APUSH is an outstanding course and not as hard as many people think. APUSH and AP Chem are two completely different animals so some would not think they would pair well together but I disagree. Part of peoples success in AP is the stress that comes from major course load. You’re obviously an outstanding student to be able to enroll in AP courses so why not accept the challenge? You’ll regret it if you don’t!

Have you taken a high school level chemistry course before? That helps a lot with AP Chem.

Taking world before APUSH is in your favor as you already have developed great essay skills and study skills, but APUSH can have a lot of background info involved provided you are an American - a lot of the general events are covered as early as elementary school for most students.

APHG is considered a very easy course by most. It is usually taken by freshmen (however this is not always the case). As someone with 3 APs in sophomore year (Bio, APUSH, psych) - I did not think it was too much work. However you may have a different opinion :stuck_out_tongue:
