Ap Ush

I was wondering which prep book is best for AP USH. Which one worked for you, WHY, and what score did you receive?

I used Princeton Review and it worked for me pretty well. After a solid class in history, it is really all you need. It briefly goes over things which helped jog my memory. It covers social trends particularly well, which is a must for the APUSH exam. The pracice qestions at the end of each section are helpful, especially the practice DBQ questions (the answers are VERY useful). I got a 5 on the exam. If you want something more in depth, I suggest Barron's or REA's.

I also used PR. Its summaries were brief and to the point, which I needed for the exam.

I got a 4. I also took the subject test 2 weeks before the test and I got a 720.

REA, in my point of view, is only good to get for its practice exams.
Ask your teacher if he/she has practice exams for REA, so you won't have to buy REA.

AMSCO.....

Plain and simple.

for some reason, the amsco ap us isn't available on amazon.com unless its used.

Prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I agree about AMSCO, but it is rather thick. I read the whole book over the course of the year, and reviewed certain chapters at the end. As a supplement, Barron's EZ Keys are very thin, and are good refreshers of important ideas (although they are no where near everything you will need). I got a 5 by the way

I highly recommend the REA book. I bought it for the tests which are much harder than the real AP exam. It comes with like 8 of them so you'll get plenty of practice with it. The review material was pretty good but I didn't utilize it much. With the REA book I owned the APUSH test with a 5. 760 on USH SAT II

i took the sat II as well as the AP exam and used the sparknotes sat II book in conjunction with my AP notes. it realllly helped because it was not too lengthy and gave me supplementary knowledge that my teacher may have left out. i really reccomend it. and for practice tests, the ones in the book were probably more difficult than the real thing. the most beneficial practice tests were the previously administered ones that my teacher handed out. 5 on the exam, 800 SAT II.

REA: the actual content was better than PR, more detailed and well organized. the exams questions are basically worthless, its more like a trivia game. but definitely get it for the review material

Towards the end of the class, when I finally started studying and understanding the material, I used the Kaplan SAT II book for APUSH. It really helped me for the AP test too, since it had a lot of detailed information and was easy to memorize and read through. I also bought the PR book, but that is WAY EASIER than the actual test. I got 1 wrong on the MC portion on 2 practice tests that I took in PR. I received a 4 on the test, however, but it must have been because of my essays! haha, Good Luck! :)
