So I’m currently a junior (grade 11) enrolled in HS in the US and am actively involved in the AP program at my school (IB is not offered). However, there is a chance that I may move out of the country and I would have to enroll in a school that only offers the IB program. Is there a chance that I could switch into the IB program my senior year (grade 12)? Or is that not possible?
I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to take IB classes, but you won’t be able to complete an IB diploma. That takes two years and there are many courses needed to fulfill the requirements. I would conatct the school you might be headed too and ask what IB courses you will be allowed to take. Tell them what AP courses you have already taken. They will probably know that AP courses are rigorous.
@collegeconfuser1 I’m currently enrolled in the IB program. Are you looking to receive an IB diploma? If so I don’t think it’s possible to enter the program in 12th grade as most classes are 2 year courses. If you’re just looking for IB credits, many schools offer 1 year courses which do not require you to be a full IB student.
I agree with posters above. But let me add that international schools, particularly ones that enroll a lot of expat kids (whose parents are in the foreign service or work for multinational corps) are super good at handling transfers in your situation. Those schools have very high turnover and kids who are coming from and going to a myriad of systems/schools /countries. It’s unlikely you’ll have to work this out on your own. Part of their mission is to make your transition as seamless and stressless as possible because they realize that for any family that is relocated out of the country, there are going to be challenges and they don’t want to compound them. Of course, it depends on where you go, but this is often the case.
