I'm going to be a sophomore in high school this fall, and I want to know if I CAN take ap world and ap U.S together. Has anyone done it before?; how was it? - I originally was going to take AP Bio but my G.C could arrange the course into my schedule with my other classes, I'm very disappointed.

You possibly could, but I’d advise you not to? I mean personally from experience the exams are so different in the history and there is very little overlap that I think it will be difficult unless you’re really up to it. Plus the APUSH exam is changing in format next year so there’s also that.

You’d have to check when the exams are given. For example, the AB and BC exams are given on the same date and same time so it’s impossible for a student to take both the same year. You can check to see if the APUSH and APWH exams fall under the situation, but if they don’t then you CAN take them both.
That’s not to say, however, that you SHOULD take them both. I’ve taken both tests (just as different times) and, like HeisAidanD said, there is little overlap between the two.

Conflicts in AP test times should not be taken into consideration. If 2 exams are offered at the same time, you can apply for late testing for the second exam. For AB and BC, one cannot take both exams in the same year because the College Board does not allow it, not because of testing conflicts. For the record, the exams for WH and USH do not conflict in 2015.

So, to the OP, you can take both the same year. Whether you should take both is a different question. Personally I would not. Like the poster above, I have taken both (and Euro), but in different years.

I’ve taken AP Human Geography before which is basically a history class and let me tell you, one AP history class per year is enough. I mean if you really truly wanted to, you could, but I’d say do that junior year because sophomore should be the year where you relax on the APs. I mean if you honestly want to go ahead but it sounds like torture. Plus the info isn’t much similar so you’re not getting any advantage by doing that, except maybe taking more APs later but more APs doesn’t necessarily mean better. Also keep in mind, colleges look at unweighted GPA more than weighted so aim for As in the AP classes.

Thx so much for the advice guys. I just happen to have a huge gap in my schedule and was thinking of what I could do for next year. Thx again. :D

I just took AP world and would advise you to stick with just one history class unless you are super interested in it or something. Take one or the other. It doesn’t matter which order really.

Both are heavy reading course and I had at one point wanted to take both in one year. But after seeing the amount of work each required, I’m glad I stuck with one. It’s your choice however, but perhaps there are some other electives or subjects you are interested in?

Not nearly as bad as taking two AP maths or two AP sciences.

Lots of work for both though.

Thanks for the advice. Im going to talk to my guidance councelor tommorow and I might end up taking a math or a science course instead of the us history since I tend to to much better in that area. Hope everything works out!

I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re really good at history and really interested in it. Two ap history classes=a ridiculous amount of reading and notetaking.
