Well, where I live; we have started school (August 8,2005), and I take AP World History. The AP World History teacher has assigned us our AP World Civilizations textbook (by Stearns), but I have one question. How do you read the textbook? The textbook is not really difficult to read, but it is on a higher level than I have been exposed to (except Pre-AP English, which the teacher help us break down the book) and I have to read a sentence over three or four times before understanding the text. I really need help with this problem because the teacher gives us random reading guides, which should be called reading quiz to me. Can you help me with this problem?

Read the text book out loud with an accent. I know it sounds stupid, but it forces you to focus on what you're reading. You can't do that thing where you read an entire chapter and realize that you didn't process any of it. It got me through AP Comparative Government with a 5. Personally, I prefer the Brooklyn accent, but I'll do French if I'm feeling a little crazy.

Lemonteacake...wow, that's one piece of cool advice. Haha.

lol yeah that is, I can't wait to try it.

What worked best for me during WHAP was to take notes as I read. I would read a sentence or two, process it and then summarize it. My teacher would give weekly open note quizzes with detailed questions from the book so reading carefully was necessary
