ap world history

hey everyone

i am taking ap world history next year. So i know everyone takes the ap exam together in may so should i take the class fall or spring semester. I know ppl say it's easier if you take the exam when you are in that class but won't it be easier if you had a whole year to prepare for the exam. I mean you can study for the class first semester and then focus on the exam next semester. What do former ap world history students say?
thanks

::shrugs:: the only AP “social studies” classes I know of that were taught in one semester were Gov and Econ.

If it is taught in one semester, you’ll most likely have to do a lot of preparation by yourself. So I’d say it doesn’t quite matter.

I think you may be mistaken, never heard of that before. But if it was I would pick fall because more study time. I’m in Ap world next year, btw.

World history is pretty much worthless. I have never seen a top college give credit for that test. And rightfully so, because that test is easy. I got a 5 on that test after spending about a week with a history textbook. It’s even more of a joke than the AP econ tests, and I didn’t think such a thing was possible at the time.

So don’t worry about it. If you don’t get a 5 on that thing after a semester of studying, I doubt a semester more would do anything (because it means that you have no aptitude toward history anyways).

I thought World was one of the more difficult tests I took (although it was my first AP in 10th grade), and Brown does accepted World:

I would take it in the Spring. I’m better if the information is fresh in my mind. But either way, you’re going to have to study a lot - AP World is not really meant to be taken in a block class like some others, I think. If you have the option, take AP European History. AP European History is pretty similar to AP World History (unfortunately the Europeans were just about everywhere) and you’re more likely to get credit for it.

Ray192 is true in saying that many colleges won’t accept World History as a credit. They would probably take 4 or 5 as elective credits if there is a core program.

APWH is a semester class for you guys? Ouch. I just took the test and I’d recommend in your case to take in spring semester while the info is fresh in your head. You should start studying with a Princeton Review or Barrons book 1st semester. Since you’re gonna learn the subject in 1 semester, everything will be so fast paced and detailed that you’re going to have to start studying at the beginning of the year.

I would take the AP course during fall semester because for materials such as History, especially world History that covers such a wide range, you want to start as early as possible. When you are finished with 1st semester, spend the rest of the time til the AP test going over review books and doing practice tests. Therefore, you can actually apply the knowledge that you’ve acquired during 1st semester onto the practice tests and review books, etc. Don’t procrastinate. And you’ll want to take fall semester course because then you’ll be more flexible with your schedule during spring semester, especially when AP tests are arriving but you have loads of HW from all your classes. So take it early and be done with it so you can continue to study and review for the subject!
