My First Year sons are getting caught up in the hype to begin looking at apartment complexes for Second Year. Can anyone recommend an apartment complex (or two or three) near campus that is fairly quiet (or at least not party central late into the evening)? They are hoping that one benefit to apartment living is more sleep than the dorms currently permit. Also, while they will have a car, they’d prefer to be within easy walking or bus distance to Grounds. Clean and furnished is great; modern, sophisticated, and bursting with amenities is not necessary (says the primary financial sponsor). Thanks!
Hi, Lambeth is upperclass campus housing. It is less expensive and probably quieter than apartments in the 14th street area, rooms are furnished and are doubles. My daughter is in her second year and lives in an apt. on 14th Street, five minutes walk to the Rotunda. She is in a 4 bdrm/2ba apartment. It is pretty nice. Rooms are not furnished and her roommate pays $100/month for a parking space. I can PM you more information.
If you join the UVA Parent Network on Facebook, you’ll be able to connect with other parents to ask questions.
There are many housing options and you’ll see tons of advice in that group, but the students do a pretty good job of exploring all of their options. Some sign very early, but plenty wait until second semester.
Would highly recommend Lambeth Field Apartments - it’s mostly second-years (but definitely still has a lot of upperclassmen as well), is fairly quiet on the weekends, has excellent parking, and is not very far from central grounds at all. Also is located adjacent to all of the athletic facilities (i.e. short walk to JPJ for basketball, Klockner for soccer and lacrosse, Davenport for baseball, Mem Gym for volleyball, etc.). Plus, one doesn’t have to pay monthly rent; rather, it is billed once per semester with tuition if I remember correctly. Plus HRL is available to fix any major problems that may occur in the apartment.
My 2nd-year son is living in Copeley this year (Boyd House) and loves it. Two bedrooms, 1 full bathroom and 1 half bath. His bedroom is the size of his dorm room in Lile-Maupin last year! He has so much space. It’s a bit far from grounds, but he hasn’t had any trouble with catching the bus.
